Offers for schools and teachers

Our offer for pupils and teachers is designed to encourage active engagement with art, media and society. In the process, perceptual skills are refined and creative and linguistic expression is encouraged. Not only is factual knowledge imparted, but the pupils' personal world of experience is also addressed.

The original works of art on site form the starting point for this: our collection includes works from the late Middle Ages to the present day. The focus is on works by Niklaus Manuel, Albert Anker, Ferdinand Hodler, Adolf Wölfli and Meret Oppenheim as well as paintings from the classical modern period - for example by Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee and Pablo Picasso. There are also regular temporary exhibitions.

Both the collection and the temporary exhibitions offer various opportunities for in-depth exploration of an artist, an era, a technique or a medium.

We accompany your class

Our art educators will guide you and your class through the museum in a dialogical way. We offer thematic suggestions and impulses for all levels and are happy to respond to your wishes. In most cases, the art viewing is deepened through your own design and action.

Duration: 30 - 90 minutes
Cost: CHF 140

This price includes admission for school classes from the Canton of Bern (all levels). An admission fee of CHF 5 per person aged 16 and over is charged for school classes from outside the canton.

School classes from the Canton of Bern can submit an application for a travel voucher to the Department of Education and Culture.

  • Building on the teaching material "New World", we look at works by Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee, Marc Chagall, Auguste Herbin and Bridget Riley. We practise the vocabulary from Unit 3 in front of the originals and expand our English skills in a fun way. We can also get creative if we wish.

  • The workshop for integration classes (BPI 1 from 2nd semester and BPI 2) is intended to promote language skills in the form of picture viewing or small workshops and to familiarize the pupils with the institution of the museum. We work according to themes (images of people, home, landscape, colors), according to epochs (Middle Ages, Realism, Modernism, Contemporary) or according to artists and their biographies.

You accompany your class yourself

You have the option of visiting the Kunstmuseum Bern independently with your class. We ask you to register your visit at least one week in advance and to draw the pupils' attention to our visitor regulations beforehand.
